Samuele Sorana is an Italian guitarist, composer, arranger and music teacher based in Basel, Switzerland. 

​

Born in Italy (Jesi) on the 1995, he started to play the classical guitar encouraged by his family since the age of 10. With his father, which is a listener of music and a vinyls collector, he got to know the rock and progressive music and bands like Pink Floyd, Area, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Falling in love with the sound of this music he moved on electric bass. Subsequently, at the age of 13 he switched to the electric guitar.

Samuele Sorana started his first Jazz studies with Paolo Sorci at the age of 16. In 2016 he started his Bachelor's studies at the Conservatorio Gioacchino Rossini di Pesaro where he studied with important musicians like Bebo Ferra, Gian Marco Gualandi and Luca Lo Bianco. In December 2018 he got his degree with the highest marks of 110 with honors.

In 2019 he left Italy for his first experience abroad to Glasgow. Here he was musically active in the jazz environment and with his project of Fado with Mariana Arroja. 

He also performed in Scotland few times whit his still active trio called “Circle Jazz Trio”.

In 2019, he left Scotland to move to Switzerland, settling in Basel. There, he completed a master’s degree in performance at the renowned European institute JazzCampus, graduating in the fall of 2021. 

During his studies he had the opportunity to take lessons with his main teachers Lionel Loueke and Wolfgang Muthspiel, while he studied composition and arrangement with Guillermo Klein.

He also had the chance to attend lessons and masterclasses from many other notable musicians like Brad Mehldau, Larry Granadier, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Jorge Rossy, Chris Ceek, Pedro Martins, David Virelles, Alex Sipiagin, Ambrose Akinmusire and Ralph Alessi. He recorded with the "Jazz Campus Big Band feats Carlo Mombelli" project and he played also in the Guillermo Klein’s project feat Seamus Blake.

 

After completing his studies in performance, Samuele Sorana decided to pursue a second master’s degree at JazzCampus, this time in composition under the guidance of the great pianist and composer Guillermo Klein. He received his second degree in September 2023.   

 

He currently performs as a sideman all over the world and with various projects. His main band is the “Skylark Quartet,” with which he recorded his debut album, “Risveglio,” in 2023. In December 2024, the band reached a new milestone: a second studio recording, this time featuring the legendary Swiss trumpeter and flugelhornist Matthieu Michel as a special guest. The album is titled “Luna Rossa Al Belvedere” and was released in July 2025

Samuele Sorana is also very active as a teacher; he currently teaches at the Oberdorf Music School in the Solothurn Canton and gives private lessons in Basel.
